Igreja do Carmo

Museu e Casa Escondida

The Igreja do Carmo is one of the most popular scenes of tourist photographs, with its tiled facade being a regular presence in Instagram feeds. Next to it is the Igreja dos Carmelitas Descalços, classified as a National Monument since 2013.

Both churches are well known inside and outside the city of Porto, but what often goes unnoticed is the house between both buildings.

The two churches could not be built next to each other, so a space of about one meter was left, where a house was built, considered by many to be the narrowest in the city.

Mosteiro da Serra do Pilar

Inserted in the area classified in December 1996 as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Monastery of Serra do Pilar, ex-libris of Gaia, preserves the interesting church and cloister, with a circular plan, a unique example in Portugal.

The Church is a replica of the Church of Santa Maria Redonda in Rome and is covered by a hemispherical vault.

In 1832, during the Siege of Porto, the military value of the place was recognized and the convent was transformed into an improvised fortress. At the beginning of the 20th century, it became the Quartel das Tropas, currently under the responsibility of the Artillery Regiment of Serra do Pilar.

In front of the Church, there is a magnificent viewpoint, from where you can see the city of Porto and the Douro River.

Igreja Santa Clara

The Church of Santa Clara is a Catholic temple located in the parish of Sé, in the city of Porto, Portugal. Built next to the Fernandinas Walls, the Church of Santa Clara was completed in the first half of the 15th century, as was the monastery with which it was part.

Inside we can find one of the best examples of Baroque Joanino's gilded carving art, considered one of the most successful works by the carvers of the Porto school.

Access to the church is through a baroque door dating from 1697, reformulated in the 18th century, with Renaissance elements. Between 2019 and 2021, a conservation and restoration intervention was carried out, the result of two years of research.

Teatro Sá da Bandeira

Teatro Sá da Bandeira is located on the street with the same name, in the historic center of Porto. The property is developed on an irregular floor plan, consisting of four built bodies, which correspond to the main concert hall, with a capacity of 786 seats, the atrium and staircase, and the dressing room spaces.

This recreational space was designed following the models of 19th century theaters and opera rooms, although it has a more modest design.

The main facade harmonizes with the houses that surround it, in a neoclassical style. The concert hall has a circular plan with a polygonal iron cover, divided into four levels, the audience, the tribune and two floors of balconies with boxes, these in a white wooden structure with ornamental motifs in gilded and stucco. The ceiling is painted with stylized floral motifs, and the walls are covered in imitation brocade paper.
