Mercado Ferreira Borges

Built in 1885 by order of the Chamber to replace the old Mercado da Ribeira, despite never having fulfilled the functions for which it was originally intended, due to the reluctance of traders to leave the previous market, the Ferreira Borges Market is now used for exhibitions and cultural fairs.

It is located above Praça da Ribeira, in front of Jardim do Infante. Next to the garden is the Palácio da Bolsa.

Mercado Ferreira The name of the market honors José Ferreira Borges, a jurisconsult and politician from Porto who was at the genesis of the implantation of the liberal regime in Portugal.
